British Art Song

Guest Composer, Benjamin Britten

To mark the 50th anniversary of the death of Benjamin Britten (born November 1913). An english composer, conductor and pianist.

Foreign Art Song

Must be in original language. (Not Frnech, German or Indian, these have their own categories). Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire

Contemporary Art Song or Aria

Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire. Must be in contemporary classical idiom (ie Berg, Poulenc, Britten,Tippett).

Foreign Song - Indian

Song of Indian Origin composed to an original text and sung in the original language

Oratorio

Must be in original key, may be in translation. Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire

Non-competative Solo

Each entrant will receive a full adjudication, certificate and written feedback but no placing.

Renaissance / Early Baroque Song or Aria

Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire

Adult Voice Recital - Festival trophy

You must enter at least one other Solo Voice category. Please note that you should not sing a piece which you have already sung in another class. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire. Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed.

Contemporary Pop performed to backing track

Backing Track must be provided on a phone / tablet or CD and must be instrumental only with no additional singing. A sound system will be provided. You will be expected to sing without a microphone. Your song must be appropriate for a mixed aged audience. This category is not suitable for rap or heavy metal style genres

Operetta

Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire

Melodie

Must be in original language. Accompanists will need to be arranged by the performer if required. Microphones and Backing tracks not allowed. Sheet music may be used as an aide-memoire. Prize - ?20 sponsored by Cheryl Hawkins
